Sriram bowls TSC to victory

CHENNAI: S. Sriram’s five for 17 enabled TSC defeat Venkateswara by 42 runs in the SICGIL Trophy cricket tournament held here recently.

The scores:

TFUCC 183 in 27.4 overs (C. Prakash Chander 43, E. Sivakumar four for 35) bt Dunlop S&SC 133 in 27 overs.

TSC 162 for seven in 30 overs (Srikanth 48) bt Venkateswara 120 in 25.2 overs (S.Sriram five for 17).

Magnet 214 for nine in 30 overs (M. P. Rajagopal 40, Karthi Kumar 40, Unnikrishnan 46, R. Arun Kumar four for 18) bt Sridhar C.C 157 in 26.4 overs (G. Shankar 54, Palanivel four for 48).

Komaleeswarar C.C 168 in 30 overs lost to Garnet C.C 170 for two in 19.1 overs (M. Arevalagan 61 not out, G. Terrence Savio 57 not out).

Gems C.C 160 for eight in 30 overs (S.A.Asif 43) lost to Friends XI 161 for eight in 29.1 overs (V. Ganga Sridhar Raj 44, B. Aparajith 40).

V. Akash’s 98 helped Asiatic CA beat MGCA by 49 runs in the Prahlad under-13 cricket tournament held here on Thursday.

The scores:

Asiatic CA 199 for six in 30 overs (V. Akash 98) bt MGCA 150 for five in 30 overs (Nikhil Chand 29).

Prahlad CA ‘B’ 62 in 27.1 overs lost to JS Rao CA 65 for no loss in 6.5 overs (S. Harahavardhan 49 not out).

M. Govindan, a Vice-President of the Chennai District Carrom Association, passed away here on Wednesday after a brief illness. He was 85.

Govindan was also Secretary of the Olympic Recreation Club. As Secretary of the ORC, he was instrumental in organising open tournaments in chess, table tennis and carrom in the eighties and nineties.

Besides, the regular coaching camps in the club during summer holidays had his patronage.

The Chennai District Volleyball Association will conduct its district ‘B’ division league championship from June 9 to 15 at SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium.
