21 huts destroyed in Chebrolu

GUNTUR: A minor fire sparked from a cooking stove gutted 21 huts at Yadlapati Nagar in Chebrolu mandal rendering scores of daily labourers homeless.

According to fire department personnel, the fire was caused by sparks which flew from a cooking stove in a hut. The flames quickly spread to the neighbouring huts even as the inmates ran out in panic.

Fire tenders were rushed from Guntur, Ponnur and Bapatla to control the fire. The property lost was estimated at Rs.3.5 lakhs.

Chebrolu tahsildar P. Venkateswara Rao handed over Rs.2,000 each to the families affected and distributed rice and other material.
