Jeev makes the cut

Adare Manor (Ireland): Jeev Milkha Singh survived a frustrating day on the greens that left him four-over 76 in the second round, to make the cut at tied 11th even as Shiv Kapur and Jyoti Randhawa crashed out of the Irish Open here.

Jeev, tied for the lead overnight, was in a for a disastrous reversal of fortunes in the second round as he stumbled to four bogeys and a double bogey against a couple of birdies that took his overall total to two-under 142 for tied 11th spot.

However, Kapur (76) and Randhawa (75) did not have the first-round cards to fall back upon like Jeev, and their respective totals of four-over and seven-over saw them miss the cut.

It was a disappointing reversal for Jeev as he found himself two-over within the first four holes after a bogeys on the third and fourth. Another dropped shot on the eighth completed a wretched stretch.

The Chandigarh-golfer tried to arrest the slide in his backward journey with birdies on the 10th and 12th but was undone by a double bogey on the par-four 13th. Jeev then stumbled to yet another bogey on the 17th to round off a disappointing day.

Meanwhile, another strong first-round performer S.S.P. Chowrasia, who was tied seventh overnight, returned a seven-over 79 in the second round to miss the cut by a stroke.

At the top, Frenchman Michael Lorenzo-Vera carded a two-under 70 in the second round to lead with six-under 138. — PTI
