Easy win for Indian Airlines

HYDERABAD: Indian Airlines defeated AC Guards Welfare Association 4-0 in the A-2 Division hockey league championship at Begumpet Police Stadium here on Saturday.

Former international Mukesh Kumar struck twice and Santosh and Sudheer once each for the winner.

In another match, Osmania University defeated Royal Club 4-1 with Sai striking thrice and Kushwant Singh scoring once. For the loser, Sai Kumar reduced the margin. In the B-Division league at AOC Grounds, Tarbund XI drubbed NFC 6-1 with Rakesh (3), Ashwini Kumar (2) and N. Chari (1) being the scorers for winner, while Don Bosco reduced the margin for the loser.

It is informed that the A-1 Division league championship will commence from May 24 and the participating teams may renew their players for this season at the HHA office.

Aziz XI posts win

Azizuddin XI scored a 2-0 win over Noor Mohammed XI in the Talent Hunt under-15 football tournament, organised by the District Sports Authority of Hyderabad, at Gymkhana Grounds here. Venkatesh struck in the 11th minute and Tieo in the 25th minute for the winners. In another match, Yousuf Khan XI and Kannan XI were locked in a goalless draw.

Sunday is a rest day.

Boxing meet

The Vizag Boxing Club is organising the Rajiv Gandhi memorial Uttarandhra senior boxing meet at the Police Stadium in Visakhapatnam from May 21 to 24. More than 150 boxers will participate in the meet.

The weigh in will be at the Swarna Bharati indoor stadium on May 20.
