Life ban on three players lifted

Jalandhar: The ad hoc Selection Committee of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) on Sunday lifted the life ban on three Punjab players who were punished after manhandling an umpire during the Premier Hockey League last year.

The Chairman of the ad hoc Selection Committee, Aslam Sher Khan, revoked the ban order with immediate effect.

“Life ban was imposed on three players — Tejvir Singh, Kamaldeep Singh and Maninder Singh — in an arbitrary manner by the previous regime and I hereby revoke it with immediate effect,” Khan told reporters here.

Talking about the change of guard in IHF, Khan said selection of the players would now be done in a transparent manner and the ad hoc committee would make every effort to improve the standard of the game.

“We want to bury the past and look forward to improve hockey. Due to some people with vested interests, who were in charge of the IHF, an impression was created that players cannot become good administrators.

“Half of the problems in the Indian hockey team are over with the change of guard and other problems will be sorted out soon,” he added. — PTI
