G.K. Motors HC triumphs

Madurai: G.K. Motors Hockey Club defeated Food Corporation of India (Chennai) 5-2 via tie-breaker, in the final of the 11th annual Kothaiammal memorial Trophy State-level hockey tournament at Vadipatti near here on Sunday.

The teams were level 1-1 in regulation time.

Thirunagar Hockey Club (Madurai) finished in the third place defeating City Police (Chennai) 6-5 in the tie-breaker.

GK Motors HC 5 (John Paul, A.G. Kannan, Richard, Ramdas, Bruno) bt Food Corporation of India, Chennai 2 (Nandakumar, Ayyappa).

Third place: Thirunagar HC (Madurai) 6 (Solai Arasu 2, Sivamani, Anand, Kali, Haneefa) bt City Police (Chennai) 5 (Parthiban 2, Joseph, Raman, Bhaskar) via tie-breaker, regulation time 1-1.

Semifinals:

GK Motors HC 5 (Jeyaraj, Richard 2, Suresh 2) bt Thirunagar HC 1 (Sathyaseelan).

Food Corporation of India 3 (Dhanapal, Johnson, Nandakumar) bt City Police (Chennai) 2 (Manikandan, Joseph).

Quarterfinals:

GK Motors HC 6 (Richard 2, Jeyaraj, Ravi, Vinodh 2) bt Tamil Nadu Special Police 5 (Manikandan, Thirumeni, Sudharsan, Ramesh, Krishnan) via sudden death, regulation time 2-2, tie-breaker 3-3.

All-India basketball tournament

At Karur, the Karur Basketball Club will conduct the 53rd all-India basketball tournament for the LRG Naidu Memorial Cup (men) and the third all-India basketball tournament for the KCP Indirani Memorial Cup (women) at the Municipal Tiruvalluvar playgrounds, here, from May 21 to 25.
