Study done on coach factory project

Chennai: The Railway Ministry has done a preliminary study for building a coach factory at Kanjikode in Palakkad district, Union Minister of State for Railways R. Velu said here on Tuesday.

Apart from studying land availability there, the Ministry is looking at the logistic facilities, Mr. Velu told presspersons after launching a cart for people with physical disabilities at the Egmore railway station here.

The Railway Budget proposal for the coach factory had brought cheers to Kerala. Such a factory has been a long-standing demand of the State.

The State government had identified 1,000 acres (400 hectares) of land.

The project is expected to bring in an initial investment of Rs. 6,000 crore. — PTI
