Indian Airlines emerges champion

HYDERABAD: Indian Airlines emerged the ‘A’ 2 division league hockey champion with an 8-1 win over Secunderabad Sporting Club in the last match at the Begumpet Police Stadium here.

Shahnawaz, Kranthi and Mahender scored a brace each and Santosh and Vijay one each to complete the tally for the winner, while centre-forward Haseeb reduced the margin.

By virtue of this performance, Airlines, with 19 points, topped the league and has been elevated to the ‘A’ 1 division.

Young Turks, with 15 points, and AC Guards XI with 13 points were second and third respectively.

In the ‘B’ division league at the AOC grounds, Gun Bazar defeated Rainbow Club 2-1 with Saleem and Ishaq scoring one goal apiece for Gun Bazar, while Srikanth Reddy reduced the margin for Rainbow Club.

Match drawn

Noor Mohammad XI and Yousuf Khan XI were locked in a 2-2 draw in the Talent Hunt football tournament (under-15), organised by the District Sports Authority of Hyderabad at the Gymkhana grounds here.

Parashuram struck in the 27th and 40th minutes for Noor Mohd. XI, while Surender and Anil Kumar scored one each for Yousuf Khan XI.

Road Races

Athletics Coaching Academy will organise the 11th AP Summer Road races at BJR Statue (Lal Bahadur Stadium) here on June 1 from 6 a.m.

Competitions will be held for men, women, boys, girls and veterans.
