BANGALORE: S. Deepak of Bangalore Sports Club (BSC) and Nirupama Sunderraj of Baldwin HS with two golds apiece were adjudged the best boy and girl athletes, as the curtains came down on the two-day World Athletics Day meet. J.M. Punasara Jayalath of Sri Lanka bagged the day’s honours with a double in the girl’s under-15 category. Punasara claimed the shot put gold with a throw of 7.50 metres and then returned to heave the discus to a distance of 24.19 mts for a fine double on a day when 30 finals were decided. R.K. Gopalkrishna, the vice-president of the Karnataka Amateur Athletic Association, who got into a fracas with secretary, K. Satyanarayana on the dais during the inauguration of the meet on Tuesday, was stripped of his post by the KAAA. The Executive Committee of the KAA called for an emergency meeting in the evening chaired by Dr. G. Parmeswara, the president and sought Gopalkrishna’s resignation which was submitted and accepted.
