KOLKATA: German giant Bayern Munich arrives here on Sunday afternoon. Though the visiting team does not have more than half of the regular squad, it has not dampened the enthusiasm of the soccer fans for the team’s greatest icon Oliver Kahn is coming. The three-day trip to the city will end with an exhibition match against Mohun Bagan at Salt lake Stadium on Tuesday. Kahn will be playing his final match for Bayern. As per the arrangements now, Kahn will be handing over the gloves ceremonially to his successor Michael Rensing at the later half of the match and do a lap of the stadium. Legendary Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who is chairman of Bayern’s executive board, has opted out of the trip because of the transfer season in Bundesliga. — Principal Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
