Sun Sports Club lifts trophy

Sivakasi: Sun Sports Club, Dindigul lifted the Vinodhkumar memorial Trophy defeating Tuticorin District Football Association 6-4 via a tie-breaker in the final of the 32nd annual State-level football tournament at Sivakasi on Sunday.

At the end of regulation time, the teams were level 1-1.

Ramesh put Tuticorin ahead with a 40th minute strike but Charles converted a penalty in the 48th minute for the equaliser for Sun Sports Club.

In the tie-breaker, all the five players, Jaffer, Viki, Charles, Siva and Vinodh scored for Sun Sports Club, while Dinesh, Preston and Sathak Omer converter for Tuticorin.

Rajapalayam Hockey Club won the title defeating host Indus Hockey Club by a solitary goal scored by Manoj in the 29th minute in the final of the 11th annual State-level hockey tournament for the Annai Savari Nayagam Charitable Trust Trophy at the Government HSS ground, Panjampatti near Dindigul on Sunday.

Earlier in the semifinals, Indus Hockey Club beat City Police, Madurai by a solitary goal scored by Jeyaraj in the 16th minute and Rajapalayam Hockey Club beat Thirunagar Hockey Club, Madurai 3-0. Murugananthan (16th), Muthukumar (33rd) and Manoj (42nd) scored for Rajapalayam Club.

Olympian Baskaran gave away the prizes.
