Bringing smiles: Actor Karthi celebrating his birthday with underprivileged children in Chennai on Sunday. CHENNAI: Actor Karthi, the hero of Tamil film ‘Paruthi Veeran,’ spent his birthday on Sunday with his fans, taking part in several programmes aimed at improving the lives of the poor. Through a welfare association called Makkal Nala Manram, launched with the support of his fans, he distributed satchels to children, sewing machines to the poor and tricycles to physically challenged persons. His fans from various parts of the city had gathered at Sir Pitti Thyagaraya hall in T. Nagar for the occasion. Mr. Karthi said he was following in the footsteps of his father and brother. His father had launched the Sivakumar Trust and his brother Suriya, the Agaram Foundation. Blood donation campEarlier in the day, he participated in a blood donation camp held as part of his birthday celebrations in Thiruvanmiyur.
