Bomb scare at Metro

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: An anonymous phone call threatening to blow up the Chawri Bazar metro railway station set off panic in the area on Tuesday. The call later turned out to be a hoax. The call was received at the Police Control Room around 5-30 p.m. claiming that a bomb had been planted at the station and it could blow up any time. Bomb disposal teams and dog squads were rushed to conduct searches at the underground metro station, but no explosives were found. “The search operations on the railway track led to suspension of metro rail services on the Vishwavidyalaya-Central Secretariat line for some time,” said a police officer. The call was traced to a public telephone booth in the Connaught Place area. This is the second time in the past four days that such a call has been made to the police. Earlier, the Chawri Bazar metro station had to be evacuated after a bomb call on Saturday.
