Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Triplicane police on Tuesday arrested social ‘Traffic’ K. Ramaswamy and two others on charges of violating an order promulgated by police.

Police said members of the Tamil Nadu Driving School Owners’ Federation had got permission for observing a fast on Tuesday near the Government Guest House in Chepauk. While giving permission, the police also stipulated that the Federation members could observe fast between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

However, Mr.Ramaswamy, federation president Shanmugam and Venkatesan, one of its members, assembled at the venue around 6 a.m. When the police objected to this and explained to them the permission timings, they entered into an argument with the personnel and pushed a Sub-Inspector of Police. They also threatened the personnel, police said. Following this the three were arrested.

Cases were filed against them under Sections 188 (Disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated by a public servant), 353 (Assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) and 506 (i) (Criminal intimidation).

The arrested were remanded to judicial custody, police added.
