Tension over worker’s death in Karaikal

KARAIKAL: Tension prevailed in the Government Hospital in Karaikal in the Union Territory of Puducherry as the relatives of a worker refused to take the body from the hospital.

Police sources said that Kumaresan (37) died while fixing asbestos sheets in a private factory at Sellur in Karaikal district on Friday and his relatives with local people staged a demonstration in front of the Government Hospital demanding compensation from the factory management.

After the factory management agreed to give a compensation of Rs.3.50 lakh and also bear the expenses of the funeral, the relatives withdrew their agitation. The body of Kumaresan was handed over to the relatives after post-mortem.
