Three Karbi Anglong insurgents surrender

Guwahati: Three Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) insurgents surrendered before the Border Security Force here on Saturday.
The self-styled ‘corporal’ Thomas Rongpi, Rupsing and Janaram Teron, all from Karbi Anglong district, deposited an AK-47 assault rifle and two pistols along with ammunition before BSF Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland Inspector-General P.K. Mishra at a function.
They told reporters that they had been forcibly taken away from their villages by the KLNLF and compelled to undergo training in handling sophisticated weapons such as AK series rifles.
Welcoming the militants back into the mainstream, Mr. Mishra said the BSF was motivating extremists to give up arms for peace and the effort was rewarding.
The force had during the last 11 months of its anti-ULFA and KLNLF operations in Karbi Anglong neutralised one militant, made six others surrender, apprehended 47 linkmen, and seized 27 weapons with 250 assorted ammunition and fake Indian currency with a face value of Rs. 60 lakh. — PTI
