PALAKKAD: The District Development Council (DDC) which met here on Saturday has demanded that the government ban indiscriminate sand-mining in rivers and streams in the district for six months during the rains as it is creating serious environment problems and affecting drinking water sources. A resolution passed by the meeting and moved by V. Chenthamarakshan, MLA, said uncontrolled sand-mining was affecting the environment, particularly the water sources in the eastern parts of the district, very badly. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
