Legislative Council polls on June 26

MANGALORE: The Election Commission of India has announced the calendar of events for the election of Member of Legislative Council from Dakshina Kannada local authority constituency.

An official press release here on Friday stated that the vacancy arose owing to the death of Congress leader Blasius M. D’Souza, who had been elected from the constituency. The elections, if needed, will be held on June 26 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The notification for the election will be issued on Monday.

Schedule

Last date for filing of nominations is June 9. The nominations will be scrutinized on June 10 and the last date for withdrawal is June 12. The votes will be counted on June 28. Members of gram panchayat, taluk and zilla panchayats, corporation, municipal councils, town panchayats, MLCs, MLAs, and MPs from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada form the electorate.

Enrolment

Members of these civic bodies are required to fill up the prescribed form 17 to get their names included in voters’ list of the constituency.

The electoral registration officer and election officer for the Dakshina Kannada local authority constituency has requested the members concerned to contact the respective taluk tahshildars, fill up the form 17 and get their names registered as voters, at the earliest to cast their votes in the election.
