Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Four more women have been inducted as members of the standing committee on Law and Justice, which is considering the Women’s Reservation Bill. This takes women’s strength to seven on the 31-member committee.

There were five vacancies from the Lok Sabha and these were filled on Friday evening. The new members are Tejasvini Gowda and Krishna Tirath from the Congress, Kiran Maheshwari from the Bharatiya Janata Party, P. Satheedevi from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), all women, and Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party.

The other women members — all from the Rajya Sabha — are Jayanthi Natarajan (Congress), Najma Heptullah (BJP) and Brinda Karat (CPI-M). The next meeting of the committee is scheduled for June 2.
