Call for action against Sukhender Reddy

Staff Reporter

NALGONDA/HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam leaders of the Alair Assembly segment on Monday have demanded suspension of the vice-president of the party, Gutta Sukhender Reddy, for his role in the defeat of the party candidate Mothkupally Narasimhulu in the byelections.

The leaders passed a unanimous resolution to this effect at a meeting held in a private lodge in the temple town of Yadagirigutta. They also threatened to resign their posts if the party president failed to take action immediately.

Addressing the meeting, Mr. Narasimhulu blamed Mr. Sukhender Reddy for his defeat. “Since I am a Dalit leader, Mr. Reddy joined hands with senior Congress leader Vuppunuthala Purushottam Reddy and Kasireddy Narayana Reddy (ZP chairperson) of the Congress to ensure my defeat,” he maintained.

Meanwhile, Congress’ nominee from Alair Assembly constituency Shaga Lazarus launched an indefinite fast demanding expulsion of Mr. Purushottam Reddy for working against the interests of the party. Accompanied by a few dozens of supporters, Mr. Lazarus sat on fast in front of the Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at Gandhi Bhavan. Meanwhile, TDP sources said in Hyderabad that the party was awaiting a report from Mr. Narasimhulu. Only then it would know what had gone wrong and if any leader had a role in the party’s defeat in Alair.
