BANGALORE: South Zone clinched the SAI Inter Regional hockey title. At the SAI South Centre ground here on Tuesday, South Zone girls drew with Central Zone 1-1 to remain unbeaten in the six team league for a tally of 13 points (four wins and a draw). Central also remained unbeaten but drew 2-2 against East to finish with 11 points. K. Vidya struck an early goal for South in the eighth minute but Kmala Rawat neutralised the advantage with a 14th minute equaliser for Central. In the morning, Preeti Singh and Anusha scored for Central in its 2-2 draw against East. Shashipradhan netted both the goals for East which sufficed it to share points. North East snatched its first win with a 4-3 win over West Zone while North crushed West 9-0 in the day’s other matches. Olympian goalkeeper A.B. Subbaiah was the chief guest and gave away the trophies and mementoes to the teams. Final standings: 1. South Zone 13 pts; 2. Central Zone 11, 3. East Zone 8, 4. North Zone 7, 5.
