Judicial custody of Arun Gawli extended till June 17

Mumbai: A special MCOCA court on Tuesday extended the judicial custody of gangster-turned-MLA Arun Gawli, arrested on charges of extortion, till June 17.

The special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court here also extended the judicial custody of seven others, including Gawli’s brother Vijay Ahir, arrested in the same case.

Special judge Vinay Joshi on Tuesday also allowed application filed by Gawli for home food on medical grounds. Gawli was arrested on April 21 after being booked in an extortion case filed by a city-based builder who was receiving threatening calls from Gawli’s henchmen, and has been in custody since. MCOCA was invoked by the police case on April 29.

Meanwhile, his brother has also moved the court for home food. The court has sought a report from the jail doctor before considering the application. Ahir has also filed a bail application, which will come up for hearing on Wednesday. Gawli will remain in police custody till June 6 in connection with the murder of Shiv Sena Corporator Kamlakar Jamsandikar in March last year. — PTI
