BANGALORE: The BBMP is making an attempt to have citizens’ participation in communication and relief works in rain affected areas. For this purpose, a new initiative called – Samparka Bandhu – has been put in place. Under this initiative, about 200 volunteers from local areas have been roped in to help the BBMP’s relief teams as soon as they sense the trouble from rains in their locality and ensure that relief operations are carried out at the earliest. Preventive measures would be taken based on the input from the volunteers. A chart mentioning names and contact details of volunteers are already in place in many zones, according to BBMP Commissioner S. Subramanya while pointing out that the BBMP officials will be in touch with the volunteers to get frequent updates from the area. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
