Gamberini gets the call

BADEN (Austria): Alessandro Gamberini was at home in Bologna on Monday, keeping his summer vacation on hold for the slight chance he would be called up for the European football Championship.

And when Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro was hurt in the Azzurri’s opening training session, Gamberini was the first person coach Roberto Donadoni called. “They told me to delay my vacation, but I was hardly expecting the call would come,” Gamberini said.
