Visakhapatnam wins title

VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakhapatnam regained the Andhra State junior (under-21) hockey title beating host East Godavari 2-0 in the final in the 26th edition of the championship at DSA stadium, Kakinada on Thursday.

Centre forward Krishna Kishore, a trainee of the Centre of Excellence in Bangalore, put the team ahead in the 10th minute and left-in Rajeswara Rao scored the second goal, latching on to a pass from left-out Ramesh from outside the D.

Earlier, Rajeswara Rao scored a hat-trick Visakhapatnam’s 4-1 win over Krishna in the semifinals. Jagadeesh Babu scored for Krishna in the 10th minute.

Ramesh Kumar restored parity and Rajeswara Rao knocked in three in a row.

East Godavari beat Kadapa 2-0 with goals by Naga Srinu and Avinash in the other semifinal.
