West and North register wins

MUMBAI: West Zone and North Zone won the first round of matches in the J. K. Bose all-India cricket tournament round-robin league at D. Y. Patil stadium, Neurl, on Thursday. West beat East by eight wickets, while North defeated South by six wickets.

Sports Journalists Association of Nagpur ‘A’ won the ESPN Football penalty-kicks event, edging out Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai ‘A’ in the final. SJAM ‘A’ retained the ESPN Euro 2008 quiz, while Tamil Nadu Sports Journalists Association finished second.

The results:

ESPN Football penalty kicks: Winner: SJAN ‘A’ (Naresh Shelke, Paritosh Pramanik, Rahul Dixit). Runner-up: SJAM ‘A’ (Sanjjeev Samyal, Ashwin Ferro, V. Anand).

ESPN Euro 2008 quiz: Winner: SJAM ‘A’ (Akshay Sawai, Bikash Mohapatra, Mario Rodrigues). Runner-up: TNSJA (V. V. Ramanan, K. Keerthivasan, S. Sudarsan).

J. K. Bose Cricket: East 122 for seven in 20 overs (Dipankar Guha 54, S.M. Barua 20, Sanjjeev Samyal two for 24, Devendra Pandey three for 18) lost to West Zone 123 for two in 15.4 overs (Sudheendra Tripathi 21, Subodh Mayure 38, Sanjjeev Samyal 45 n.o.).

South Zone 135 for seven in 20 overs (S. Viswanathan 30, Abdus Salam 24, Hari Narayanan two for 13, Dharmendra Tripathi two for 20) lost to North Zone 139 for four in 17.5 overs (Hari Narayanan 24, Vijay Kumar 60 n.o., Dharmendra Pandey 30).
