CHENNAI: Six sailors from the Tamil Nadu Sailing Association (TNSA) figure in the seven-member Indian team for the Al Bareh International regatta championship, to be organised by the Bahrain Maritime Sports Association, at Al Jazayer Beach from June 17 to 21. Thirteen countries including India are taking part in this championship. The others are Algerian, Bahrain, Egypt, Greece, Kuwait, Libya, Pakistan, Qatar, Sudan, Tunisia, Turkey and UAE. In the recently-concluded DP World-Chennai Optimist National coastal sailing championship (under-16), which was also a selection trial, five boys and two girls were selected to represent the country in all the International Optimist Regattas that India will participate in this year. The six selected from Tamil Nadu are Varun Thakkar, Hussain Bhavnagarvala, Rufus Patrick, Praveen Prabhakar, Niveditha Ravivarman and Shweta Sadanandan. The seventh sailor is Aman Vyas from NSS Bhopal. The seven young sailors have been under intense training since the National championship under the Optimist National Coach, Ninad Mayeker. Praveena advancesPraveena beat Monisha Srihari 7-5, 6-4 in the girls’ under-12 quarterfinals of the UCAL-TNTA-KTC junior tennis tournament at the KTC, Kottivakkam, on Thursday. Kumar Logesh and Rohan Sagar made it to the children under-10 final, defeating Vikram Dhananjay and Dev Anand respectively. Other results: Girls: U-12: Quarterfinals: Kavya Bharat bt M. Kedar defeated FSCA by three wickets in the u-15 final and got the better of J.S. Rao by 31 runs in the u-13 final. The scores: Final: U-15: FSCA 105 for nine in 30 overs (M. Arvind 30) lost to Kedar CA 107 for seven in 28.5 overs (Ram Ramesh 26 n.o., M. Mukund four for 20). U-13: Kedar CA 125 for nine in 30 overs (R. Ramoj 48) bt J.S. Rao 94 in 27.5 overs (Darryl Ferrario 33). Adarsh Estates in finalAlok Patra’s four wickets for 27 runs took Adarsh Estates Pvt. Ltd. to a nine-run win over Ox Fox CC in the semifinals of the Reddy’s League for Private Clubs – 2008 cricket tournament, conducted by the Reddys Cricket Academy. In the other semifinal, Master Makers CA, helped by G. Babu’s 83, defeated Spectra Life Care by 20 runs. The scores (semifinals): Adarsh Estates Pvt. Ltd. 192 for eight in 25 overs (T.
