Pending files cleared in a marathon session

MADURAI: The top brass of the Department of Elementary Education led by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan State Project Director, M. P. Vijayakumar, came calling Madurai on Friday to conduct a marathon session for settling all pending issues related to elementary education.
Hundreds of files were brought to one place and each case was individually handled by senior officials, including Joint Directors.
It was aimed at clearing long pending files of Government elementary teachers/schools of three districts — Madurai, Theni and Virudhunagar — which could not be attended to for various reasons for years together.
On-the-spot solution“This is an on-the-spot solution forum for which senior-level officials have come for the cause of employees’ welfare,” Mr. Vijayakumar, who is the Director of Elementary Education (in-charge), told The Hindu after he looked into some files and issued suitable orders.
The issues ranged from employee’s pension to an elementary school’s permission for constructing a building on the campus to teachers seeking official permission to pursue higher studies through distance education.
According to Mr. Vijayakumar, the delay could have happened for want of clarity or guidance for local staff, who had to depend on the Directorate for appropriate decisions.
K. Natarajan, Madurai District Elementary Education Officer, said that 350 pending files on elementary education issues were cleared for Madurai district alone. Similar sessions had been planned for all districts and one such session was over in Erode.
Joint Directors of Elementary Education, S. Kannappan and Rameswara Murugan, were among those who took part in the exercise.
