‘Namakkal district needs three new taluks’

Staff Reporter

NAMAKKAL: Deputy Speaker of State Assembly V.P. Duraisamy has appealed to the State government to create three new taluks in Namakkal district to ensure effective administration.

Memorandum

In a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister, the Deputy Speaker pointed out that government had not created any new taluks while creating the Namakkal district.

The existing Tiruchengode and Namakkal taluks in the district are among the largest taluks in the State. Tiruchengode taluk has 115 village panchayats with over 3 lakh population and Namakkal has 131 villages with over 3.5 lakh population. Mr. Duraisamy suggested the government to create two new taluks - Komarapalayam and Namakiripet by dividing the Tiruchengode taluk. The Komarapalayam taluk can be created by including Komarapalayam and Pallipalayam towns and Veppadai. The Namakiripet town panchayat, its surrounding areas and a part of Senthamangalam block can be taken for creating the Namakiripet taluk.

Tribal villages

Similarly it was important to bifurcate Namakkal taluk and create a separate taluk including all the tribal villages in the Kolli Hills.

The creation of these three new taluks, which was a long pending demand of the people in this part of the State, would enable the officials to carry out the development programmes effectively, Mr. Duraisamy said.
