Check assets of all retiring employees

It is rather amusing than anguishing to read in newspapers almost every day that a tahsildar here or a sub-registrar there or an engineer somewhere else has been caught red-handed while accepting bribe or found possessing assets disproportionate to his or her known sources of income.

It is a known fact that corruption is rampant in all government departments without any exception. If the government is really sincere in preventing corruption, better check the assets of all employees who are going to retire from their service soon. It will help the government find honest employees, besides taking tough action against the guilty.

Lapses in EAMCET

It is sickening to note the errors in the question paper and the key of the EAMCET this year. No action has been initiated either against the paper-setters or those who prepared the key. It seems the officials of the Higher Education Department are of the view that no one would come forward to set the question paper, if the guilty were punished for committing such blunders while setting the question paper.

It is the students who become scapegoats for the mistakes committed by a few officials. The Ministers for Higher Education and Technical Education should owe an apology to the student community for the lapses in the EAMCET examination this year.

Awareness about law needed

It is time the universities introduced law as a subject at the graduation level. Many post-graduates and professional degree holders have no knowledge even about fundamental rights and duties. Awareness about the law and punishment being given by courts for committing various offences would bring about a change in students who are now resorting to extreme steps like threatening and attacking girls in the name of love.

Besides that, basic knowledge of law is necessary for professionals like doctors and engineers. Hence, I request Vice-Chancellors of all universities to take the necessary steps to include law subject in the syllabus.

No check on constructions

Xavier Nagar in Eluru city limits is fast developing with a number of pucca buildings coming up. One has to obtain permission for construction of a house from the Sanivarapupet panchayat and the Eluru Municipal Corporation as well. But, no one is bothered to see how the constructions are going on. One can find most of the building owners deliberately occupying the site meant for roads, leaving aside the issue of leaving setbacks.

The worst case is the Yetigattu Road from Dr. Ambedkar statue to Thammileru bund. The constructions in this street are full of encroachments. I request the city planners to inspect the street and take steps against the encroachers.
