Andhra Pradesh

Focus on development

This refers to the editorial “Telangana takes a back seat” (The Hindu 03/06). The editorial has rightly concluded that if the State government focuses on the development of the backward Telangana there would not be any room for the the demand for separate state. After all such demands takes birth in the minds of the people due to negligence of their region, resulting in poor employment opportunities, the poor living standards, lack of basic medical facilities, poor literacy. Even though a number of Telangana leaders had become Chief Ministers, besides a Prime Minister and President of India, very little was done to the region. The results of the by polls clearly sent a message that no one can cash in purely on sentiment without focusing on developing the region.

Telangana sentiment

The hue and cry of senior leaders of Telangana belonging to the Congress and TDP for the undying sentiment of Telangana State is the outcome of KCR’s penetrating approach into the hearts of the people this region. Undoubtedly the voters have assassinated their long felt desire of having a separate state which is now relegated to back seat as vividly opined by The Hindu in its editorial on June 3, 2008.

Erase the slur

The reported proposal by Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad to usher in Monorail for Patna sounds praiseworthy. However, it flies at tangent in terms of priority. Many would have witnessed the unseemly sight of scavenging staff removing with hands and tiny tools, the human excreta from the tracks. The spectacle is a stigma to the civilised society. Railways should initiate steps to eliminate this blight with top priority, by introducing latest technology which renders garbage disposal feasible.
