The initiative of the police to curb luggage thefts in Pandit Nehru Bus Station is laudable. Besides keeping a vigil on the movements of habitual offenders, the police should also focus on security arrangements at the bus station. One can see many dark patches on the premises of the bus station after dusk, which have become permanent addresses of pocket pickers, luggage lifters and other anti-social elements. There is no mechanism to prevent the entry of private vehicles into the bus station premises, so that there is every possibility for thieves to escape from the bus station after committing an offence. The police and the officials of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) should take necessary steps to improve lighting in the bus station and regulate the entry of private vehicles into the premises. M.S.K. Bindu Old H.B. Colony, Vijayawada Regulate trafficThere is a strong need to regulate vehicular traffic in Gudivada town. Particularly, the stretch on the road that leads to Bantumilli is testing the patients of vehicle drivers. With unloading of goods from lorries taking place on the road from dawn to dusk, a major stretch of the road is being occupied with stranded lorries and the hamalis. Though frequent traffic jams have become a regular affair here, the traffic police are doing nothing either to regulate the traffic or take action against the traders responsible for the unloading of goods. I request the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to ensure free flow of vehicular movement on this stretch. L.V.S. Kameswara Rao Poranki, Vijayawada Roads in bad shapeOfficials of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation have begun the work to lay underground drainage pipeline at Ayodhya Nagar some six months ago. The works have come to a standstill after completion of digging. Now, residents of this area are facing several difficulties to travel on the internal roads, which are in a bad shape. Though the monsoon has brought cheer on the faces of the people of the rest of the city, the residents of Ayodhya Nagar are cursing the rains for worsening their troubles. Since there is no response from the VMC officials for the repeated appeals made by the residents, one fails to understand how to come across this problem. I request the new Commissioner to look into this serious problem. A. Gopi Ayodhya Nagar, Vijayawada Print name, please! The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is issuing receipts on payment of bills for its CellOne mobile services without mentioning the name of the subscriber or even the mobile phone number. This leads to confusion among the subscribers who have more than one mobile phone connection. The BSNL officials are requested to make arrangements either to print the name of the subscriber or at least the mobile phone number on the receipt. The officials are also requested to provide the facility of paying the mobile phone bills in nationalised banks and eSeva centres. B. Ramakrishna Rao Machilipatnam © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
