Mango export zone to be opened this year

Krishnagiri: The ‘Krishma’ mango export zone in the district will become functional this year.

The State government has identified 77 acres for the export zone, Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam has said.

Inaugurating the 16th All India Mango Festival here on Sunday he said that the zone would have full-fledged infrastructure and provide remunerative prices for farmers and mango pulp producers. Mr. Arumugam said the government had sanctioned nine sugar factories across the State in the last two years. Efforts would be made to establish a sugar factory in Krishnagiri district for the benefit of farmers.

The Minister asked farmers to adopt effective water management practices to increase productivity.

He distributed welfare measures to the tune of Rs.39.79 lakh to 198 beneficiaries at the function.
