Extension of train service

While appreciating the views expressed by Eshanullah of Nagore (Readers’ Mail dated 3-6-2008) with regard to extending the services of Mayiladuturai-Mysore express train to Nagore, the suggestion given by Thambras Krishnamurthy of Kumbakonam to run the Mysore express to Nagore via Mayiladuturai is rather not feasible as only metre gauge track is available from Mayiladuturai to Tiruvarur.

Instruct bus crew to enter town

State-owned buses plying between Kumbakonam and Chennai prefer to rush through the bypass road without entering Kumbakonam via Palakkarai. As major part of the town is around Palakkarai area only, this causes great inconvenience to commuters. TNSTC, SETC authorities should instruct the crew suitably.

Expand broadband service

The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is expanding its broadband services from its various telephone exchanges in Karur district. It is regrettable that Sungagate telephone exchange has been abandoned for over eight months. This exchange is located two km away from Karur central telephone exchange and covers Gandhigram, Pasupathipalayam, Ramanoor and its adjacent areas.

Subscribers applied for new internet connection from these areas have been kept under pending for over eight months on the ground that capacity of this telephone exchange is to be upgraded. It is learnt that necessary approval from the BSNL Trichy Circle is awaited.

Replace old buses

I thank the Tamil Nadu State Express Transport Corporation for introducing new buses from Thanjavur to various destinations. Some of the existing buses being operated to long distance cities are old and I request the authorities concerned to replace them with immediate effect.

I welcome the Government’s decision to conduct a special campaign for screening 9,370 school children for heart diseases.

Post traffic police

Posting of traffic police at Ayikulam Road near HR and CE Assistant Commissioners’ Office between 5 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. is an absolute necessity. Pedestrians find it difficult to cross the road as it is a three-road junction.
