Fortune favours Rounak

Coimbatore: Kolhapur’s Rounak Patil, with a small slice of luck, took home the honours in the senior class in the second round of the JK Tyre Rotax Mojo Max karting challenge at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam here on Sunday.

Rounak and the experienced Rayomand Banajee, who finished second, benefited at the expense of pole leader Karan Goenka from Kolkata. Karan, who enjoyed a sizeable lead from the start to the last lap, misread the markers to make a wrong manoeuvre and surrender the lead for the third place.

Parth Ghorpade did not require any such luck. The youngster from Kolhapur raced to his second successive podium finish of the season. Even as Parth was whistling his way merrily to the finish line, Chitesh Mandody (Kolhapur) and Samyak Shah (Mumbai) were fighting hard for the second spot. But it was the former who managed to edge out the latter at the finish line.

Dhruv Mohite of Kolhapur was at his best in the Micro Max category. The ten-year-old registered a comfortable win over his hometown mate Krishna Mahadik. Chennai’s Surya Raghuraman wrested the third position. — Sports Reporter
