TSC wins Pattabhiraman Shield



CHAMPIONS: The triumphant Triplicane Sports Club.

Chennai: Triplicane Sports Club (TSC) won the C.R. Pattabhiraman Shield for the third division of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association league championship.

In the play-off tie to determine the winner, TSC defeated DSS Club by 35 runs.

Earlier, TSC and BRC were tied with 40 points each, forcing a play-off. The former won the tie by five wickets.

Earning promotion

TSC then met DSS Club (38 points), the winner of ‘B’ Zone, for the title fight. Both the teams earned the promotion for the second division.

During the season, S.P. Nathan was star batsman for TSC, totalling 449 runs in 13 matches at an average of 49.89, followed by Varun Narendran with 402 runs at 36.55. C. Senthil Krishnan was the other prominent contributor with 329 (average 29.91) runs in 12 matches.

K. Purushothaman was the outstanding bowler, capturing 29 wickets at 12.96 apiece, followed by V. Vasudevan (26 wickets, 15.23) and S. David Samrot (26, 19.50).

Final: TSC 296 for seven in 50 overs (Varun Narender 83 n.o., S.P. Nathan 60, C.M. Pradeep Kumar 41, Senthil Krishnan 31, P. Ramajayam three for 90) bt DSS Club 265 in 46 overs (E. Sivakumar 82, S. Manoraj 49, Shanmugasundaram 26, R.M. Srinivasan five for 58, K. Purushothaman four for 78).

Play-off match: BRC 125 in 33.4 overs ( K.P. Purushothaman four for 23, Dharit Sanchan three for 24) lost to TSC 130 for five in 31.4 overs (R.M. Sriram 33 n.o. 26).

Aircel takes honours

Aircel defeated Sutherland by 29 runs in the final of the Seventymm Corporate Twenty20 cricket tournament, organised by VS Sports Network.

The scores: Final: Aircel 109 for six in 20 overs (Venkatramanan 40 n.o.) bt Sutherland 80 in 15.1 overs (M.R. Shankar 40, Venkatramanan three for six, Rajaraman three for 15).

Special awards: Best batsman: Venkatraman (Aircel); Best bowler: Murali (Club Mahindra); Best fielder: Venkat (Sutherland); Man of the Series: P. Venkatesh (Aircel).

Hat-trick by Ganesh

L. Ganesh bagged six wickets, including a hat-trick, to help host YSCA to an easy win over isoft in a match of the all-India ICICI-YSCA Trophy cricket tournament being played here.

The scores: PUC 150 for nine in 30 overs (Vivek 72, R. Ganesh three for 35) lost to YSCA ‘B’ 151 for five in 27.4 overs (Sai three for 51).

Prahlad CC 213 for four in 30 overs (Pratik Jain 64, Yashwant Ravi 63) bt Chennai Port Trust 131 in 24.1 overs (Aravinth 40, E.A. Venkatesh three for 11).

iSoft 61 in 13.3 overs (L. Ganesh six for eight including a hat-trick, K. Srinivasan four for 29) lost to YSCA ‘A’ 62 for four in 9.3 overs.

Venkateswara CC 162 for six in 30 overs (Gajendran 76) lost to Loyola College ‘B’ 167 for two in 27.2 overs (Nishath 78).

Sundar scalps six

Medium-pacer Sundar of Bharath Group claimed six wickets to help his team to an eight-wicket win over Southern Auto Centre and also earn a bonus point in the YSCA league-cum-knock-out cricket tournament for the SSI Trophy being held here.

The scores: iSoft 156 in 20.4 overs (Vijayanand 42, Krish Srikanth four for 33, Balaji three for 37) bt i-flex 85 in 17.4 overs (Guna three for 19); iSoft: 5 points, i-flex: -1.

Southern Auto Centre 98 in 24 overs (Sundar six for 26) lost to Bharath Group 101 for two in 17.5 overs. Bharath Group: 5, Southern Auto Centre : -1.

Reliance Communications 195 for eight in 30 overs lost to Ashok Leyland Corporate 198 for eight in 29.3 overs (K. Nagarajan five for 43). Reliance: 0, Ashok Leyland Corporate: 4.

Master Makers triumphs

Master Makers CA defeated Adarsh Estates by six wickets in the final of the Reddy’s League for Private Clubs, conducted by Reddy’s Cricket Academy, here.

Vijaya Sarathy, former captain of the Andhra Ranji team was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.

The scores: Final: Adarsh Estates 149 in 23.5 overs (T. Bharath 50, G. Babu six for 34) lost to Master Makers CA 151 for four wickets in 24 overs (G. Babu 75, Harish 44).

Coaching camps

The Little Hearts Cricket Academy will organise coaching camps for boys and girls from June 15 (on all Saturdays and Sundays) at the SDNB Vaishnav College for Women in Chromepet and from June 21 at Stella Maris College for Women, Cathedral Road.
