Madanapalle: Groundnut farmers of Molakalacheruvu, Thamballapalle, Gurramkonda, Kurabalakota, Valmikipuram, and B.Kothakota launched an agitation on Monday protesting against the mode of distribution of groundnut seed in the area. In Thamballapalle and Molakalacheruvu, the police resorted to lathicharge. to quell the irate agitators and reportedly nine persons were injured. In Molakalacheruvu, the agriculturists staged a vociferous protest even as M.L.A K. Prabhakar Reddy, was who was disbursing the seeds tried to pacify the crowd with promises of opening a counter for seed distribution in each panchayat. and also alloting permits to each farmer. The farmers turned unruly forcing the the MLA to make good his escape through the back door At least four persons were injured in the lathicharge at this place. Some ryots went on a rasta roko on the national highway protesting the behaviour of Tahsildar Rama Devi towards a farmer who approached her for permit.
