Muramalla/Yanam (East Godavari dt.): Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu struck a sentimental chord with people, particularly those belonging to the weaker sections at Muramalla village near Amalapuram during his ‘Meekosam’ tour of East Godavari district on Tuesday. On the Congress government’s performance, Mr. Naidu expressed surprise that though most of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s pre-poll promises were unfulfilled, he claimed ‘his was the best governance in the country’. Most of Mr. Naidu’s route between Muramalla and Yanam was through villages that were the stronghold of former Lok Sabha Speaker late G.M.C. Balayogi. He alleged that the Congress had deprived Scheduled Castes of their Constitutional rights and cheated other sections of people too on several counts and people were so vexed that they were prepared to teach the Congress a lesson in the 2009 general elections. If the TDP came to power, Mr. Naidu promised that it would strive with renewed vigour to eradicate poverty and ensure social justice. He laid stress on helping out farmers and fishermen who always bore the brunt of nature’s fury. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
