BJP confident of returning to power

HYDERABAD: Enthused by the results in the Karnataka elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed the hope that the “strong anti-Congress wave” will spread to other southern States in the next elections.

The party is confident of returning to power at the Centre in the next elections, likely to be held in November, because of the “pro-BJP shift” which is becoming increasingly evident.

“We are confident of winning the elections whenever they are held,” BJP national secretary and Member of Parliament C.P. Thirunavukkarasu said on Wednesday. Addressing a press conference here, he said the BJP and its allies’ victory in 12 of the 16 States that went to the polls after the UPA came to power was indicative that the Congress was losing ground as well as popularity. Inflation, soaring prices of essential commodities and steep hike in the prices of petroleum products would ensure the Congress’ rout as the people were “overburdened.”

The country was moving backwards in all directions ever since the Congress took over the reins as priority sectors like agriculture had been “totally neglected.”

It was ‘shameful’ that an agrarian country like India was forced to import wheat at much higher prices and the current situation was indicating that rice too would be imported shortly.
