Guwahati: Three hardcore militants of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) were killed in an encounter with the Army at Borbam village in Dibrugarh district late on Tuesday. They were Madhurjya Gohain, self-styled lieutenant of ULFA’s 28 battalion wanted in connection with the killing of 72 Hindi-speaking persons by the outfit in upper Assam last year; and self-styled sergeants Major Baba Dadhora and Krishna Gogoi. The defence spokesman at the 4 Corps of the Army headquartered at Tezpur, Lieutenant Colonel Rajesh Kalia, told The Hindu that the encounter started around 7 p.m. and continued till 0040 hours on Wednesday. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
