India ‘A’, fringe players’ camp begins

Bangalore: A round of medical tests and fitness assessment sessions marked the inaugural day of the India ‘A’ and fringe players’ camp at the National Cricket Academy here on Thursday. The pace bowlers were tested on both the medical and fitness parameters while the batsmen and spinners had one-to-one sessions with their respective coaches.

“The players are eager. They are mature and most of them have played in the IPL. We are not exactly coaching them, its all about fine-tuning their skills,” said G.R. Viswanath, batting consultant.

Bowlers Ashish Nehra, Ranadeb Bose and Vijay Kumar were notably absent among the 30 players. Academy sources said that Bose and Vijay were recuperating. There was no news on Nehra.

Ajit Agarkar, L. Balaji, Munaf Patel, V.R.V. Singh, Siddharth Trivedi and Pankaj Singh are some of the prominent bowlers at the camp.

On Saturday, the batsmen and spinners will have their medical and fitness tests like skin-folds which measure the ratio of fat to body mass. The camp is expected to gather steam from Monday.
