Police fire in air to disperse mobs

Nashik: The police opened fire in the air on Friday to disperse groups which indulged in communal clash and arson over pelting of stones on a place of worship here.

Trouble started at Bagwan Pura area when a mob hurled stones from a building’s terrace at people, who were returning from a mosque after offering Friday prayers, the police said. The people belonging to one community regrouped and set afire six motorcycles and some auto-rickshaws and pelted stones.

The police rounded up 25 to 30 people from both the communities involved in the clash. —PTI
