Mumbai: A Sub-Inspector allegedly committed suicide inside the guard room of the high-security Sena Bhavan here on Sunday afternoon. Pradip Kisan Mane, 43, shot himself with a service revolver at the Shiv Sena headquarters in Dadar, police said. Mane’s is the second suicide by an on-duty policeman in the recent days. Constable Mohan Deshmukh, 42, committed suicide while being on guard duty outside a nationalised bank’s branch last Tuesday. Indebtedness could have led Mane, who joined work after a 40-day sick leave on Saturday, to end his life, a senior officer said, adding no suicide note was found. SuspendedMane, attached to the Shivaji Park police station, was suspended from service twice earlier and had borrowed around Rs. 4 lakh from his friends for the renovation of his house in central Mumbai’s Byculla, the officer informed. “During his sick leave, Mane had taken psychiatric treatment in Pune with the help of his brother who is a practising doctor,” the senior official said. — PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
