KOLKATA: The Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) leadership said on Sunday that the indefinite bandh demanding a separate State that was relaxed during the past few days would resume in the Darjeeling hills of West Bengal on Monday evening. The announcement comes a day after External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee expressed his opposition to the Statehood demand, just as Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee did earlier. “There can be no compromise on our demand; we are still open to the idea of tripartite talks involving the Centre, but they should focus on our single-point demand for Gorkhaland,” GJM spokesperson Benoy Tamang told The Hindu over telephone from Darjeeling. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
