DYFI urges TN to fill vacancies in Government departments

TIRUPUR: The State president of Democratic Youth Federation of India and Perambur legislator S.K. Mahendran on Sunday urged the Tamil Nadu Government to fill the existing vacancies in all the departments to provide employment to the youth.
Speaking at the 14th district level conference of DYFI, he recalled the promise given by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam to provide 3 lakh jobs to the youth.
In the last two years, except the appointments of drivers, conductors in transport corporations and village administrative officers there was not a massive recruitment in Government services. Mr. Mahendran urged the Government to expedite the process.
Coming down heavily on the alleged practice in textile sector in which employing poor, young girls from rural hamlets for a meagre sum in the name of Sumangali Scheme, Mr. Mahendran wanted an immediate end to it, which he likened with bonded labour system. With the cost of higher education continuously going up, thousands of poor children after passing out Plus Two could not pursue higher studies.
Mr. Mahendran asked the Government to ensure extension of education to all students besides opening up of more Government engineering and medical colleges. Earlier the cadres of the DYFI took out an impressive rally, which began at College Road.
