Girl allegedly commits suicide

New Delhi: A teenaged girl allegedly committed suicide after a youth with whom she had a relationship died three weeks after he attempted to take his life following her family refusing their marriage plan.

Shilpi, 19, allegedly consumed some poisonous substance on Saturday night which led to her death, police said on Sunday.

She is understood to have taken the extreme step after Mukesh, 22, her lover, died in a hospital on Saturday.

Mukesh had on May 20 allegedly set himself afire near Shilpi’s residence after her family went back on their promise to marry the girl to him.

Both, Mukesh and Shilpi had eloped in March to get married but the girl’s family had caught them near Narela.

A case has been registered and investigations are on.
