HEALTH IS WEALTH: Balanced diet is key to healthy life. —

For those who are health conscious or on a diet, daily food involves selecting cereals, vegetables and fruits to suit their health needs.

For people like Raju, a professional here, it also means additional expense for he goes only to supermarkets or specific outlets and the choice is for packed and readymade health foods.

Brushing aside fears that health foods are more expensive, a city-based doctor explains that normally vegetables used by common man are a limited variety. Lack of time and busy lifestyle are some of the factors that compel people to choose the best of what is available in the neighbourhood store.

“People should go in for locally available, seasonal fruits and vegetables that are naturally ripened,” he suggests. That will bring down the cost of transportation and storage. The concept is now a big movement in countries such as the U.S.

Similarly, he recommends consumption of the local cuisine.

A dietician in one of the hospitals adds that people will have to understand that unhealthy food habits will result in spending more for treatment. Hence, they should have a balanced diet.
