310 cases of traffic violations booked

Tuticorin: In a major crackdown, the police have booked 310 cases in the district against violators of motor vehicle rules over the last two days.

Eighty nine cases were registered against two-wheeler riders for not wearing helmets and for using ones not confirming with standards stipulated by the government.

Of these, as many as 78 cases were registered in Tuticorin itself. Besides, nine riders were booked for drunken driving at Tuticorin and Kovilpatti police sub-division limits and another four for riding with two persons in the pillion.

A total of 59 drivers were fined for using dazzling lights and one for over-speeding.

Official sources said that the drive would continue in the next few days.
