Four ULFA activists shot dead

Dibrugarh: In a major operation, the Army on Sunday shot dead four top United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) activists of the “strike force 28 Battalion” in Upper Assam’s Sibsagar district and seized a huge amount of arms and ammunition.

The 268 Field Regiment cordoned off Kanubari village of Charaideo sub-divison of Sibsagar district along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

There was a fierce encounter in which the four self-styled Lance Corporals of ULFA were shot dead and they were identified as Badal Khargoria, Annie Bauri, Sumit Gohain and Ajit Gogoi.

The militants were hardcore and involved in several acts of killing and extortion.

The Army recovered an AK-56 rifle, an AK-47 rifle, one grenade launcher, an M-16 rifle, two other rifles and more than 500 rounds of live ammunition.

This month the security forces have shot dead 12 hardcore ULFA militants. —PTI
