AIDWA to stage protest against LPG price hike

SHIMLA: The Central Executive Committee of the All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) on Sunday gave a call to women to organise a protest on June 25 against the steep hike in prices of cooking gas.

The committee which met at Solan 50 kms from here, decided to campaign against communalism from August 9 (Quit India) to August 15 (Independence Day) and bring out a booklet on the subject.

Ms. Sudha Sundararaman general secretary of the AIDWA said that the organisation would intervene and ensure strict enforcement of PCPNDT Act in all the States. It would sharpen its interventions in the ongoing NREGA project since severe impediments were being placed in its implementation by some vested interests.

She said the meeting expressed sorrow at the loss of life and injury to innocent people in the bomb blasts in Jaipur. The communal forces had sought to create divisions among the people, but with little success, she said. “The Vasundhara Raje government in Rajasthan stands guilty of the merciless killing of 42 Gujjars and injuring scores of others, in the ongoing Gujjars agitation.”

In Himachal Pradesh, the newly elected BJP government has increased bus fares by 25 per cent, while lowering the price of a bottle of liquor by Rs. 45.

Welcoming the introduction of the Women’s Reservations Bill in the Rajya Sabha, the AIDWA called upon women and other democratic forces and organisations to push for its passage in the coming session of Parliament

She said a resolution was passed condemning the Haryana police for the death of Sarita in front of a police station in Rohtak.
